Myanmar-Bangkok Earthquake Relief Live Updates: Indian Disaster Force At Myanmar Monastery Trying To Rescue 170 Monks

As it urgently sought $8 million to save lives and stop disease epidemics over the next 30 days, the World Health Organization declared the Myanmar earthquake a top-level emergency.


Following a devastating earthquake on Monday, rescuers battled aftershocks to search for survivors in the destroyed city of Mandalay. According to the ruling junta in Myanmar, there have been approximately 1,700 verified deaths, 3,400 injuries, and 300 reported missing persons.

Bangkok authorities said on Sunday that at least 18 people had been killed, 33 had been injured, and 78 were remained unaccounted for. Rescuers in Bangkok, Thailand, worked on Sunday to rescue individuals who were trapped when a 30-story skyscraper that was still under construction collapsed following the earthquake.

Minutes after the earthquake, which occurred northwest of the central Myanmar city of Sagaing, there was an aftershock with a magnitude of 6.7. Across the nation, it wrecked bridges, buckled roads, and demolished buildings. Mandalay, the country's second-largest city and home to almost 1.7 million people, saw the most severe damage.
